I will try to boot into safe mode to uninstall VirtualBox tomorrow. This is a critical bug! I hope this bug is going to get fixed soon so I can use VirtualBox again. I just ran into the same issue: a healthy Windows 8 install fails just after upgrading VirtualBox to latest release. Had to do a system repair in order to get Windows 8 back on track. VirtualBox had been a favorite for a long time because it is free Oracle must fix its installer and ensure that all commercial versions of Windows currently being sold do not fail this way when installing the product.
I experience the same problem. Everything is fine with version 4. When upgrading to version 4. I've found that the problem is solved when disabling everything in the Startup tab of the Task Manager. I could not start my Windows 8 64 bit after Virtual Box 4. Happily, the automatic Windows repair reversed changes and uninstalled Virtual Box.
