Messing around with group policy and registry settings can be annoying when all you want to do is something simple like set a default printer and have that default stick. With PrinterLogic you can completely avoid the need for any group policies and registry hacks to keep the correct printers set as default for end users and workstations. Simply make a printer deployment and turn on the option for setting the printer as default.
Any time the end user logs into their workstation, PrinterLogic will confirm the correct printer is set as default. Press the Windows and I keys simultaneously to open Settings. Using the default settings, Windows automatically manages the default printer. If your default printer keeps changing, you should have no misgivings about firing Windows from this job.
To open Settings, click the Windows menu icon, click the gear-shaped Settings icon and then select Devices. There's always a chance that old device drivers could be causing the default printer problem.
If Windows is changing your default printer to one you no longer use, remove it. To do this, open Settings. This takes you directly to the printers in Settings. In the list of printers, click each printer you no longer use and choose Remove Device. As an alternative, you can also delete printers using Device Manager. Sign in to vote. Why does my default printer keep changing to microsfot XP printer?
I have tried deleting it changing it and every time with in a matter of hours it changes back. I am running the windows Friday, March 25, PM. Monday, March 28, PM. All instructions are in our Wiki article below Default printer changes. I have all network printer. This happens to a number of computers. Here is the scenerio. A user gets up from their home computer may or may not logout, makes no differance , goes to second computer, logs in, may or may not print something.
Logs out then returns to their home computer. The printer default from the second computer replaces the default printer on their home computer. All the computers are xp pro All the printers are network and distributed by GPO. The current default printer that has been selected is the default printer.
